Dad and Mum: An obituary of sorts

There’s much to be said about Mum and dad,
The Father of thousands,
the mother of millions,
they raised us all well,
especially the silly ‘uns

Mum shared with us music
And culture and stuff,
And Dad whiskered our faces,
With his stubble so rough.

Through good times and bad,
they provided a home,
they lead by example,
until we were grown.

They taught us a lot,
They taught us to laugh,
And Dad shouted “Margaret”
If someone was in the Bath.

I loved Mum and dad,
Am grateful for that,
They sacrificed much,
To put clothes on our back.
Then they sold up and moved,
To their own little place,
With a garden and office,
For Dad’s personal space.

I think in the end,
They retreated for peace(s),
Ten children’s a lot,
never mind nephews and niece(s).

The twilight years Dad,
Withdrew to himself,
His patience declining,
Along with his health.

But I’ll never forget the belly laugh things,
“walking back”,
Mrs mop, Donald duck
and soprano Smiths sings.

So here is my toast,
To our Mum and Dad,
Not grannie’s white hens,
But for them I am glad.
